Larry joined the Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1957 in Fairfield, Iowa, rising to the Worthy President position in just five years. In 1973-1974, he served as the Iowa State Worthy President, bringing in the largest membership class to that point in Iowa’s history. He was appointed West Central Regional President three years later. In 1979, Larry transferred to Des Moines Aerie #109, which he remained a member of until his passing. He served Des Moines for many years as a Ritual Advisor until starting his journey through the Grand Aerie in 1993. Larry was installed as Grand Worthy President for the 1999-2000 term at the International Convention in Nashville, Tenn. He listed his installation among his proudest moments as an Eagle, along with being selected for the Iowa State Aerie Hall of Fame and the Grand Aerie Hall of Fame. He was retired from the Iowa National Guard, where he held the position of Military Personnel Sergeant and enjoyed traveling the Eagles’ jurisdiction and meeting his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Pam, and their children and grandchildren. My Circus... and my Monkey(s) have been working overtime lately. Sorry if this is "over sharing" but it might alert you to some medical issues to be looking out for that you did not know existed... especially our Senior Members. My Mom had an atypical "small" stroke, approx a week ago (nothing about it is small except the area of her brain where it is located). This type presents differently than a "regular" stroke. Her right side is affected - but she has jerking motions with her arm & leg on that side - that she can't control. It's almost like a tourette's tic. She has more dementia symptoms than before. Of course we noticed the jerking movements, but there weren't any of the typical stroke symptoms. She was talking fine and walking and her face wasn't drooping. Please keep an eye out, or research it further. Any medical professionals feel free to add any experiences that you have had with it. It's been pretty rough dealing with the hospital trying to get into a nursing home for rehab. She may end up staying permanently, so I don't want to make a rash decision and end up in one of the bad facilities. Thank you for your support and of course - your patience! ~:~ Janel ~:~ Glenwood Iowa Eagles #3784 had THREE winners in the Children’s Art Contest this year!
